Ivermectin is used to treat river blindness (onchocerciasis) and strongyloidiasis (threadworm; a type of roundworm that enters the body through the skin). Ivermectin is also used to control scabies, which is caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. The FDA has approved ivermectin for use in humans.
